The Local Government Unit of Tacurong supports the campaign to end violence against women. The kick-off ceremony occurred at the City Hall Compound during the standard Monday flag-raising ceremony on Nov. 28, 2023. The City Treasurer’s Office (CTO) hosted the event, attended by City Mayor Joseph George L. Lechonsito, city officials, Tacurong City Philippine National Police, and local government employees.
The CTO personnel presented an entertaining dance performance during the ceremony. Later, Assistant City Treasurer Romulo P. Paclibar, JR., reported on the CTO’s accomplishment in local revenue collection. The office achieved 111 percent collection efficiency for business tax, 130 percent for other taxes, 85 percent for real property tax, 81 percent for economic enterprise, and 102 percent for fees. In conclusion, the CTO met the 172 million target with a 100 percent total collection efficiency.
City Mayor Lechonsito commended the CTO, emphasizing its role as the LGU’s manpower in acquiring city resources. He also highlighted the Business Permit and Licensing Office’s significant contribution to the finance committee.
The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), led by Nancy Bawe, RSW, hosted the kick-off program for the 18-day campaign to end violence against women from November 25 to December 12, 2023, with the theme “United VAW Free Philippines.” CSWDO initiated the campaign by hanging tarpaulins across the city.
Men Opposed Violence against Women Everywhere (MOVE) Tacurong Chapter President Renante Mercado presented on Violence against Women and their Children (VAWC).
A big orange ribbon symbolizing hope and a future free from violence against women hung from the City Hall Building balcony. Small orange ribbons were distributed to men in uniform and LGU employees to express unity in the campaign.
Meanwhile, Grade 8 SPED student Ashley Jane Abella, a Tacurongnon at Tacurong National High School and a person with a disability, was presented as the 1st runner-up awardee during the Ms. & Mr. PWD as part of the Provincial Person with Disabilities Day 2023 in celebration of the 25th Kalimudan Festival.
