The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) said it collected P274.429 billion (net of tax refund) in October 2023, surpassing its target by 8.57 percent or P21.654 billion for the said month.
It was higher by 46.94 percent or P87.670 billion than what it collected in the same month last year.
This brought total collection in the first 10 months of 2023 to P2.132 trillion (net of tax refund), up by 11.11 percent or P213.14 billion a year ago.
The BIR’s collection target for 2023 was P2.639 trillion, representing a 12.99-percent or P303.500 billion increase over the 2022 actual collection.
“With the intensification of the Bureau’s tax enforcement activities, specifically on the campaign against sellers and buyers of fake receipts, and with the continuous streamlining and digitization of the BIR’s core services, we hope to encourage all non-compliant taxpayers to comply fully with the provisions and requirements of the tax laws so we can attain, and even surpass, our annual collection target this year,” BIR Commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr.
