QC welcomes new outsourcing hub in SM Fairview

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte has welcomed the growth and expansion of the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry for providing thousands of job opportunities for residents.

Belmonte, speaking during the expansion announcement of US-based BPO firm Afni SM Fairview mall, reiterated her support to strengthen the call center community.

“The city’s economy continues to grow thanks to the close partnerships we have with local businesses. Our commitment to developing the local BPO scene remains through the city government’s various efforts, including improved ease of doing business. BPOs are a key player in the city’s social development strategy through employment generation for Quezon City residents,” she said.

According to Afni vice president for operations and country manager Khalid Khursheed, the company has over 8,000 employees in the Philippines, most of whom are in Quezon City.

The city government is providing training and seminars of for residents, such as the senior citizens, persons with disability and new graduates. 

Meanwhile, the  Quezon City government and Greenpeace Philippines have partnered to tackle the urgent plastic pollution crisis and enhance existing city ordinances regulating the use of single-use plastics.

Co-developed with community stakeholders and the city government, the city came up with “Kuha sa Tingi” seeking to provide accessible and affordable alternatives to sachets and plastic-packaged goods.
