Change is an essential part of an artist’s journey, and for Esang De Torres, it’s a transition that’s both enjoyable and authentic.
Known for her passion for crafting pop-rock songs, she seamlessly shifted from ballads to this new genre, reflecting the evolving and genuine artist she is.
“The change in me is nice because it’s not abrupt. And since it’s my passion to write pop-rock songs, the transition is very smooth. For me, it’s important to be authentic, and my authenticity can be seen in this genre. The change from ballads to singing pop-rock songs felt really genuine to me,” Esang told Manila Standard Entertainment in an interview.
“And with this change, I feel more connected to my music and in control of my journey as an artist,” she added.
Esang is back with a fresh sound and more music to offer. Her journey into songwriting began with her single “Praising Hours” in 2022. Now, she shares her latest pop-rock track, “Hold Me.” This anthem not only showcases her exceptional vocal prowess but also brings forth lyrics that captivate the hearts and souls of her listeners.
In 2023, Esang is undoubtedly making strides in her musical career under her home label, PolyEast Records. “Hold Me” is reminiscent of the early pop-rock era, allowing her to present her craft and musicality to the world. Through its heartfelt lyrics, she demonstrates her growth as an artist and a storyteller, proving her ability to create relatable songs filled with raw emotion and honesty.
“Hold Me” marks a significant departure from her previous singles, such as the upbeat “Heartbeat” and her rendition of Lea Salonga’s classic “Mula Noon, Hanggang Ngayon.” With its pop-rock sound, Esang channels a touch of teenage angst that suits her youthful spirit.
Furthermore, her songwriting reveals a newfound maturity as she delves into the complexities of emotions and decision-making.
Esang’s journey with PolyEast Records began with her debut single, “Praising Hours,” which showcased her talent for songwriting and her deep love for poetry. Her debut single’s profound lyrics earned her two nominations at the 36th Awit Awards for ‘Best Pop Recording’ and ‘Best Performance by a Female Recording Artist.’
Following her strong debut, Esang continued to impress with “Heartbeat,” a funky pop song that’s bound to get you on your feet, grooving to the beat. She also paid tribute to her mentor, Coach Lea, with her rendition of “Mula Noon Hanggang Ngayon,” a classic from the early ‘90s. The quality of her work was evident as she tackled these iconic songs, resulting in yet another nomination as a finalist at the 37th Awit Awards for “Best Ballad Recording.”
While her school commitments may limit her activity, Esang remains profoundly grateful for her dedicated fans who continually show their unwavering support. She’s eager to reciprocate their loyalty with more music in the near future.
“Hold Me” now streams on various digital music streaming platforms. Its official lyric video is on PolyEast Records’ YouTube channel.
