Agham is now Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago Avenue

Agham Road will now be officially known as Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago Avenue after Republic Act (RA) 11963 lapsed into law without President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s signature.

Under RA 11963, the 3.5-kilometer road from North Avenue to East Avenue, passing through Quezon Avenue would be renamed after the late senator. The law was passed by the House of Representatives on March 21, 2023, and the Senate on August 14, 2023.

Defensor-Santiago was a renowned jurist, educator, and public servant who served from 1992 to 2016.

She was known for her sharp wit, her commitment to justice, and her fight against corruption. Defensor-Santiago died on September 29, 2016, after a long bout with cancer.

The renaming of Agham Road and BIR Road in Defensor-Santiago’s honor is a fitting tribute to her legacy. It is a reminder of her unwavering dedication to public service and her lifelong fight for the Filipino people.

The law would take effect 15 days after its publication in the Official Gazette or a newspaper of general circulation.
