Philippine EV Summit grows with 11th edition in October

As global electric vehicle (EV) sales reach a pivotal moment for wider adoption, more buyers in the Philippines are embracing this shift. According to Statista, local EV sales rose from 378 in 2020 to 843 in 2021 and 1,013 in 2022. This surge can be attributed to the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA) / RA11697, enacted in May 2022, promoting EV adoption through perks like dedicated parking, green routes, and exemption from traffic coding.

EVIDA’s impact is noticeable in various sectors. The Department of Energy (DOE) is leading government efforts, launching programs like the e-App for mapping EV charging stations and developing the Comprehensive Roadmap for the Electric Vehicle Industry (CREVI). The private sector is investing in charging stations and adopting EVs for their fleets, aiming to reduce emissions and energy reliance.

The Philippine Vehicle Summit (PEVS) 2023, themed ‘Plug-In and Accelerate,’ is a key event advocating EV adoption. Organized by EVAP, hosted by MERALCO, and partnered with the DOE and Nissan Philippines, the summit from October 19 to 21, to be held at the SMX Convention Center, includes exhibitions and a conference. Notably, the Philippine Battery Consortium will be launched at PEVS 2023 to address battery concerns. This summit offers a significant platform for networking and discussions about EV progress.
