The Taguig City government has initiated a Dietary Supplementation Program that aims to support the nutritional needs of pregnant and
lactating women who are at risk of malnutrition.
On Wednesday, Mayor Laarni Cayetano led the event held at View Deck BLC in Barangay Western Bicutan where at least 150 pregnant and
lactating women received food packs, each contained eight kilos of iron-fortified rice, iodized salt, cereal bars, and healthy snacks.
“We prioritize maternal health and infant nutrition in the city.
We want to ensure that these women and their babies receive the nutrients they need to stay healthy and thrive,” said Cayetano.
As part of the program set to run from August to October 2023, educational pamphlets have been distributed to provide important guidance for maternal care during the crucial first 1,000 days post-childbirth.
These pamphlets contain important information that can help mothers take care of their newborns and ensure their health and well-being
during this critical period.
City officials said it is essential that mothers take advantage of these resources and follow the guidelines to provide the best possible
care for themselves and their babies.
Mayor Cayetano’s Caring City agenda prioritizes the well-being of pregnant and lactating women in the community.
“Here in Taguig, our dream is to be known as a Transformative, Lively, and Caring City, and part of our agenda is to ensure that mothers feel
the care and attention of the local government. We want to make our people feel that they are valued and taken care of by their city
government,” the city chief executive said.
Since 2010, the City of Taguig has been focusing on health and nutrition programs for pregnant and lactating women.
These programs are designed to improve the health of mothers and their babies and include initiatives like the Buntis Congress, Infant Care
Project, Milk Donation program, free prenatal and postnatal checkups, as well as complimentary screenings and immunizations for newborns.
The programs have been instrumental in ensuring that the community has access to quality healthcare services, and have helped to promote better maternal and child health outcomes in the city.
