THE Southern Police District has called on the public to remain vigilant and report any information that may help the police in going after the criminals.
SPD director Brig. Gen. Roderick Mariano made the call following the successful rescue of a 10-year old kidnap victim in Las Pinas City.
The operation conducted by the Parañaque City Police on Aug. 5 also resulted in the arrest of the suspect along Tramo Street, Evergreen in Barangay Pulang Lupa Uno. The rescue operation was made only three hours after the incident was reported to the police by a concerned resident.
Prior to this, another 10-year-old victim had been reported missing and was last seen on July 27, 2023. The victim’s mother has sought assistance from the Investigation and Detective Management Section of Paranaque City Police.
The authorities advised the mother to share the suspect’s photograph and the victim’s details on social media platforms.
“The community’s response thru their comments led to the immediate identification of the suspect,” Mariano said.
The suspect, identified as James De Mesa, allegedly coerced the victim to beg on the streets the process of which went into the suspect’s pockets.
An alert citizen in the barangay spotted the suspect with the missing child, and promptly reported the sighting to village officials.
“The arresting officers, who were determined to ensure the safety of the minor victim, conducted a series of back-tracking operation. This initiative led them to the exact location where the suspect was apprehended, and the child was safely rescued,” Mariano said.
“This operation demonstrates the tireless dedication of law enforcement personnel to the well-being of the community. Their rapid response and unwavering commitment to justice signify the strength of their morale and the positive impact it has on society,” he added.
The SPD chief thanked the citizens and online community members who played a pivotal role in identifying the suspect and ensuring the safe rescue of the minor.
“The case serves as a reminder that together, we can make a difference in safeguarding our communities from heinous crimes,” he said.
