Hundreds of delegates from international and local business organizations converged in this year’s International Tax Conference organized by the Asian Consulting Group (ACG) in partnership with the Center for Strategic Reforms of the Philippines.
With the theme “Beyond Borders: Addressing Global and Local Challenges,” the event, recently held at the I’M Hotel in Makati City, marked an important gathering of tax experts, finance leaders, economists and business executives to tackle crucial issues in the world of taxation.
The conference brought together key speakers and panelists from The World Bank, Asian Development Bank, International Monetary Fund, and United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime among others. Also present were honorary speakers from private, corporate, and government sectors including former Vice President Leni Robredo, Senator Win Gatchalian, former Department of Trade and Industry Secretary Ramon Lopez, and Assistant Secretary of the Department of Budget and Management Romeo Balanquit.
ACG Founding Chairman and Chief Tax Advisor Mon Abrea, lead convenor of this year’s International Tax Conference, also launched his new book Reimagining the World Without Corruption, a compilation of global initiatives to fight against corruption.
In a special book launch held during the conference, former Vice President Robredo joined Abrea in discussing his latest book that tackles the different forms of corruption from measuring and addressing corruption to transparency and accountability.
Reimagining the World Without Corruption seeks to paint a portrait of a world free from the adverse effects of corruption. To help readers visualize such a world, the book references films, books, academic articles, and even recent events related to corruption. The book provides a discussion on the definition, origin, causes, and effects of corruption, as well as the different ways that experts have grouped the different forms and varieties of corruption. It also provides a compilation of the major initiatives in the fight against corruption.
In his presentation focused on good governance and ease of doing business, Abrea shared fresh insights on global governance and corruption. Through his latest book, Abrea hopes to enlighten readers on their role as citizens in promoting accountability from the government.
