Pagsanjan unveils new integrated waste to energy plant

PAGSANJAN in Laguna inaugurated its new Integrated Waste to Energy plant on June 30 in rites led by Mayor Cesar Areza.

“This is a great project for our municipality to boost our energy and reduce the consumption from our recent power sources,” Areza said in an interview.

Pagsanjan is set to make a significant step towards sustainability with the waste-to-energy project, which aims to provide a reliable and sustainable source of energy for the town while reducing its dependence on non-renewable energy sources, he added.

Waste-to-energy technology works by converting waste materials, such as municipal solid waste and agricultural residues, into energy. This process not only provides a sustainable source of energy but also helps to reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills, which can be a significant environmental concern, the mayor said.

The project is expected to produce electricity that can power homes, businesses, and other facilities in the municipality. The project is also expected to create job opportunities for the locals, which will contribute to the economic growth of the area.

Not only is it a significant step towards achieving the municipality’s sustainability goals, Areza said it is “a clear indication of the municipality’s commitment to environmental conservation and the transition to a low-carbon economy.”

“With this project, Pagsanjan is poised to become a model for other municipalities in the country to follow, demonstrating that sustainable development is not only possible but also economically feasible,” the mayor added.

Different local executives from Lingayen, Pangasinan; Surigao Province; Mauban, Quezon; Padre Garcia, Rosario, and Batangas City in Batangas attended the event and promised to bring the project to their places.
