The number of deaths from the onslaught of Typhoon “Ursula” during the Christmas holidays has climbed to 53.
In its 6 a.m. update Tuesday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said 362 people were injured while six others are missing.
The report signed and released by NDRRMC executive director Ricardo Jalad said the fatalities and other casualties were reported in Regions 4-B (Mimaropa), 6 (Western Visayas), 7 (Central Visayas), and 8 (Eastern Visayas).
The number of fatalities are broken down into five in Oriental Mindoro; two in Occidental Mindoro; six in Capiz; five in Aklan; 16 in Iloilo; one in Cebu; one in Southern Leyte; nine in Leyte; two in Biliran; five in Eastern Samar and one in Samar.
Meanwhile, the number of damaged houses were placed at 438,409 and these were reported in Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, and Eastern Visayas.
Of this number, 107,381 were totally damaged while 331,028 were partially damaged.
Also, damage to agriculture and infrastructure in Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, and Eastern Visayas was placed at P3.4 billion.
