Former two-sport ONE World Champion Stamp Fairtex showed up in a huge way in her United States debut, highlighting to Americans why she’s one of the biggest draws in Asia.
Stamp folded Alyse “Lil Savage” Anderson in the second round of their atomweight MMA bout at ONE Fight Night 10: Johnson vs. Moraes III this past Saturday, 6 May, inside the sold-out 1stBank Center in Colorado.
The charismatic Thai megastar came out dancing to the tune from a popular girl K-Pop group, showing her playful and carefree side.
The moment the ONE Championship Circle door closed, however, it was all business for the Fairtex representative. Stamp showcased her trademark striking before putting away the tough American with a well-placed liver kick in the second round.
For Stamp, that kick was second nature.
“In Muay Thai, it’s common practice, right? When someone’s in close range, when someone breaks, you fire off a weapon. It was instinct, it was years and years of training,” she said.
Stamp also showed toughness when she got caught in an inverted triangle by Anderson in the first round. However, the 25-year-old insisted that she wasn’t in any trouble from that position.
“The triangle wasn’t really on because it was on my head, and then I just bided my time to pull my head out,” she said.
“I wasn’t in any danger because my arm wasn’t in there.”
All in all, Stamp is grateful for the opportunity to have competed in the United States and raise the flag for Muay Thai out West.
With the way she was received, it’s certain that she wants to fight in front of American fans again.
“I was very surprised and very inspired when the crowd was going crazy when I came out,” Stamp said. “It gave me so much energy to perform.”
