GSIS renovates Tacloban City branch

The state pension fund Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has renovated its office building in Tacloban City in line with its objective of providing total customer experience to 63,000 members and pensioners in Leyte, Biliran, and Eastern Samar provinces within the outlet’s area of responsibility.

“The renovation of the Tacloban Branch Office forms part of the continuous effort of GSIS to make our services not only more convenient and accessible to our members, but most importantly to ensure their safety,” GSIS president and general manager Wick Veloso said during the inauguration of the branch office on Friday, March 24.

The renovation was also undertaken to protect the structure from typhoons, earthquake and other calamities, the GSIS said in a statement.

“To strengthen the structure of the four-storey building, especially during earthquakes, we used chevron bracing imported from Singapore, that will provide stability to the foundation of the edifice,” Veloso pointed out.

The GSIS also improved the traffic flow within the premises, cleared the entrance and exit gates of obstructions and made the transacting areas comfortable and client-friendly, aside from giving it an aesthetic finish. For added security, GSIS has enclosed the parking space.

GSIS Tacloban is classified as a big branch serving an average of 400 clients daily, with 228 remitting agencies under its jurisdiction.

The 2,317-square meter lot occupied by the building is located in Fatima Village, Marasbaras and sits within an area that has since developed into a commercial hub with a host of retail and dining establishments.

“Our clients will definitely find it more convenient to visit the branch for their GSIS transactions,” Veloso added.

Aside from the Tacloban office, the GSIS has one extension office in Ormoc City in Leyte and two service desks in Naval, Biliran and Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

Veloso was joined by Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez during the unveiling of the renovated building.

The branch was awarded the Civil Service Commission 2018 People’s Choice Frontline Service—for Government Express Service at the Mall.

Prior to Tacloban branch’s renovation, the GSIS also inaugurated its newly constructed offices in Quezon City and Tagum City earlier this month.
