PH loses to Scotland in Pinatar Cup

The Philippines went down fighting.

Team captain Tahnnai Annis said this after Scotland got past the Philippine national women’s football team to claim their first Pinatar Cup win on Sunday in San Pedro del Pinatar, in Murcia, Spain.

“Again, we fought all the way until the end, and we’re able to get that late goal. So, you know, our effort and our resilience are always there,” said Annis in a statement to scribes in Manila.

The Pedro Losa-coached Scottish side managed to score for the second time following a much-improved second half performance.

Scotland scored its first goal in the 39th minute when Lauren Davidson cut inside of the right wing and fired past Filipinas’ goalie Olivia McDaniel.

“I think we did create some better opportunities for ourselves (compared to the last game). And, you know, we had those chances that could have changed the way the game played out,” added Annis.

Scotland stepped it up at halftime following the entry of Real Madrid’s top player Caroline Weir at half-time.

Weir’s control and clever passing of created more openings for Scotland in the second half though.

She opened up the Philippines’ defense completely as Corsie found her chance from inside the box on the 65th minute.

The Philippines managed to score its only goal off Meryll Abrahamsen from a free kick with a left footed shot to the bottom left corner on the 90th minute.
