The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) has entered into 43 memoranda of understanding to pursue its goal to build one million homes per year in six years.
DHSUD Undersecretary Avelino Tolentino III said at least 43 accords have been forged with various local government units pursuant to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino Program.
The program aims to address the 6.5 million backlog in housing units until 2028.
DHSUD has also piloted 12 groundbreaking projects, including one in Nueva Ecija.
“This is just a proof that there is a shift in our public housing sector, and on top of this, we are not neglecting our day-to-day operations,” he noted.
The Social Security System, the Government Service Insurance System, the Development Bank of the Philippines, and the Land Bank of the Philippines, as well as other financial institutions backed the agency’s shelter program.
“Ito pong support na ito magsisigurado na meron pong developmental loan para po mag-kickstart ng construction dito sa ating pabahay,” Tolentino said.
He said the DHSUD plans to adopt the digitalization of its day-to-day operations for a more efficient public service.
