Tropical depression Rosal maintained its strength while moving northeastward over the Philippine Sea, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Sunday.
It is forecast to move generally in that direction until Tuesday morning before turning generally south southeastward, it said, adding in the near term, it may still intensify into a low-end tropical storm within 24 hours.
In its 5 a.m. bulletin, the weather bureau said the eye of the center of Rosal was estimated 330 kilometers East of Casiguran, Aurora.
It has maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph and moving north northeastward at 20 kph.
Mimaropa, Bicol, Calabarzon and Western Visayas regions as well as the provinces of Aurora and Isasbela will cloudy skies with scattered rain shows and thunderstorms due to Rosal and shearline.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to trough of Rosal and localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA warned that possible flash floods or landslide may occur due to moderate to heavy with at times intense rains.
In the next 24 hours, PAGASA said the surge of the northeast monsoon partly enhanced by Rosal may bring occasional gusts reaching gale-force over Batanes and Babuyan Islands, and strong breeze to near-gale strength over the Ilocos Norte, the northern and eastern portions of Cagayan, the eastern portion of Isabela, Calaguas Islands and the extreme northern portion of Catanduanes.
The weather bureau said the tropical depression was forecast to move generally northeastward Sunday through Monday morning before turning east southeastward.
“In the near term, Rosal may still intensify into a low-end tropical storm within the next 36 hours. However, increasingly unfavorable conditions associated within the monsoon surge by late Monday or early Tuesday will result in a weakening trend. Rosal may become a post-tropical low embedded along the leading edge of the monsoon surge by Wednesday,” PAGASA added.
The temperature ranges between 24.9 °C and 30.4 °C.
Meanwhile, Department of Social Welfare and Development Secretary Erwin Tulfo assured the public the agency was on alert and ready to provide technical assistance and resource augmentation to all local government units.
Tulfo has instructed all DSWD fielf offices to prepare for any possible effects of the weather disturbance in response to President Marcos Jr.’s directive to respond in a proactive manner to deliver assistance to the affected areas within 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the DSWD provided assistance to the stranded individuals at Port Pasacao in Camarines Sur. The four passengers bound for San Pascual Masbate were provided with family food packs by Field Office.
Tulfo urged the public to remain vigilant and to follow the orders of their local officials to ensure their safety.
