799 Bar examinees no-show on first exam day — SC

The Supreme Court on Thursday said a total of 9,207 candidates out of the 10,006 applicants were able to complete the first day of the 2022 Bar examinations on Wednesday.

Supreme Court Associate Justice and Bar Examinations Committee chairman Alfredo Benjamin Caguioa declared that the first day of the exams went “smoothly” with 92.01-percent turnout, meaning 799 applicants failed to show up.

Caguioa supervised and monitored the exams from the Command Center in the National Capital Region. He also visited nearby testing sites.

“According to him, the first day of the 2022 Bar Examinations went well and smoothly. He was “very pleased and hopes for the same results in the remaining Bar exam days,” the SC said, in a statement.

The SC said Ateneo de Manila University had the largest number of examinees at 2,233, followed by Saint Louis University with 947, and De La Salle University with 762 examinees.

Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo, Senior Associate Justice Marvic Leonen, Justice Ramon Hernando, Justice Amy Lazaro-Javier, Justice Rodil Zalameda, Justice Jose Midas Marquez, Justice Maria Filomena Singh, Associate Justice Antonio Kho, and Justice Japar Dimaampao also visited the testing sites.

The first day of the morning exam was on Political Law and International Law (with related Tax Principles) while the afternoon exam was on Labor Law.

For the second day of the Bar exams on Sunday, November 13, the morning exams will be on Criminal Law while the afternoon exam will be on Commercial Law.

The third day of the exams on Wednesday, November 16, will cover Civil Law I in the morning and Civil Law II in the afternoon.

On Sunday, November 20, the fourth day of the exams, it will be Remedial Law I and Remedial Law II (with basic Tax Remedies) and Legal Ethics.

The Supreme Court had said that examinees who will be unable to take the exams due to severe tropical Storm Paeng may apply for a refund of their fees.
