Henry Cavill to return as Superman, premieres comeback in ‘Black Adam’

Five years after he graced the silver screen as the Kryptonian superhero in the DC Extended Universe, Henry Cavill returns as the Man of Steel, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson confirmed on his Instagram.

The Rock, who has taken on the mantle of anti-hero Teth-Adam or Black Adam, revealed on his Instagram that he was one of many who stood by and fought for Cavill’s return as Superman after studios refused.

“We fought for years to bring you back. They always said no. But for @DanyGarciaCo @hhgarcia41 & myself, ‘no’ was never an option. We can’t intelligently & strategically build out our DC Universe without the greatest superhero of all time,” Johnson said in his Instagram post.

After fans had called on the return of the British actor as the Man of Steel, studios were quick to bend to the demand as Cavill made his first official return to the screen in a cameo as Superman in Johnson’s movie Black Adam.

“I wanted to wait until the weekend before posting this to give you all the chance to watch Black Adam. But now that plenty of you have, I wanted to make it official that I am back as Superman,” Cavill confirmed in a video posted on the Rock’s Instagram.

Like Cavill, Johnson had also gone through a great battle to get his movie released after confirming that he would play Black Adam 15 years ago.

“15 hard years of fighting to make this passion project a reality. Years of studio execs saying, ‘is there any other DC superheroes you want to play instead of Black Adam?’ My answer was always no. To me – and us at @sevenbucksprod -” The Rock shared.

Cavill and Johnson shared that the newly released movie is only a glimpse of what is to come for the DC Extended Universe – with Cavill planning to return for future projects involving the man of steel.

Black Adam has garnered an audience score of 90 percent and is currently in theaters nationwide.
