Kia Philippines unveiled on Thursday the EV6 Crossover—the first electric model that the brand will make available in the Philippines early next year.
Kia EV6 and its supporting charging ecosystem are the centerpieces of the brand at the 8th Philippine International Motor Show, representing the pivotal shift to the electric vehicle market and the brand’s commitment to sustainability.
“Today, we begin our deliberate participation in the electric vehicle market as we move into the inflection point. Our event now is not simply another model introduction but also signifies Kia’s commitment to realizing our social responsibility through our 3S activities—sustainable mobility, sustainable energy, sustainable planet,” said Kia Philippines president Manny Aligada.
Kia EV6 brings long-range, zero-emission power, with 800-volt ultra-fast charging and distinctive styling to the crossover market. It is Kia’s first car based on the company’s dedicated new platform for battery electric vehicles.
“Kia’s vision to become a global leading eco-friendly mobility solution provider is not just our internal target anymore, but an achievable future that is strongly supported by our customers who feel exactly the same way we do about our future and environment and sustainability,” said Kia head of sales in Asia Pacific Joey Hong.
He said Kia EV6 won many titles and awards including the 5-Star NCAP rating and the European Car of the Year.
KIA EV6 highlights the sustainability platform of Kia and the Ayala Group, a commitment to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
Kia Philippines and the Ayala Group continue to support the use of alternative energy sources with a sustainability platform that aligns with the global and local directive to shift to more EVs.
Aligada said more than 20 EV charging stations would be rolled out across seven cities in Luzon in the coming weeks.
He said the launch of the brand’s first EV unit buttressed the company’s Kia Movement—an expansion program to achieve nationwide coverage that began late last year.
The new movement continued throughout 2022 with the opening of several new dealerships in line with the target to have 50 operational and appointed dealerships by the end of 2023.
Kia’s sales grew by 76 percent in 2021. Kia also positioned itself as one of the fastest growing brands with a 30-percent year-on-year growth in the first half of 2022. The 8th PIMS runs from Sept. 15 to 18 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.
