Yeng Guiao won’t be coaching the NLEX Road Warriors in their next campaign in the Philippine Basketball Association.
Negotiations for a new contract bogged down and Guiao won’t be around to handle the Road Warriors in the coming Commissioners Cup.
The 63-year-old Guiao has handled the Road Warriors for the last five years, steering the team to two semifinals and six quarterfinals stints.
Previously, Guiao coached the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters to the finals six times during his time with them from 2011 to 2016.
Early this year, the Road Warriors bowed to the Meralco Bolts in the Philippine Cup quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, Matthew Wright has signed up with Japan B.League Division I team Kyoto Hannaryz.
Wright, a 6’4” shooting guard from Toronto, Ontario, is suiting up for Hannaryz following the end of his contract with the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters.
He averaged 18 points and five rebounds while playing for the Fuel Masters in the PBA for the last six years.
Three other former PBA players are currently playing in the B.League, namely Kiefer Ravena (Shiga), Bobby Ray Parks Jr. (Nagoya), and Greg Slaughter (Fukuoka). Peter Atencio
