Frozen delights with a warm kick

This one is a match made in heaven: the sweetness of ice cream and the warm rush of alcohol.

There is no need to choose just one as you can indulge in both with the newest collaboration Destileria Limtuaco & Co. Inc., makers of the best local liquors, and Karabella, a local dairy products company, that gave birth to five new gelato flavors with a kick.

Karabella in-house chef, EJ Buenaflor, came up with the new gelato flavors: Chocoholic (made with Very Old Captain Rum), Paradise Mango Rum Liqueur (mango-cashew), Amadeo Coffee Liqueur gelato (coffee-cacao nibs), Manille Liqueur de Calamansi (calamansi-basil), and Intramuros Liqueur de Cacao (tablea-chocolate chips).

“We are introducing five new flavors using Destileria Limtuaco’s finest liqueurs. I hope that every scoop will bring everyone a delightful experience because I enjoyed making all these new frozen treats that we will be presenting,” said Buenaflor.

Karabella Dairy’s president and chief financial officer, Alfred Ng, thanked his marketing consultant, Spanky Enriquez, for helping pave the way for the collaboration of the two high-quality products in their respective industries.

“We would like to thank Spanky for introducing Karabella to its new partners Destileria Limtuaco led by its 2nd generation distillers and entrepreneurs – the young and dynamic duo of Aaron and Brandon of course, under the able tutelage of their mom, Mrs. Olivia Limpe Aw,” Ng said.

What made the collaboration an even sweeter deal is Karabella’s mission to help local carabao farmers and promote local products.

“Karabella Dairy aims to promote the local industry and support its local farmers. The Philippine dairy industry currently relies mostly on imported milk and dairy products. By creating value-added products, we hope to increase the income of our carabao farmers and encourage them to breed and produce more animals,” Buenaflor said.

As for Destileria, the decision to team up with Karabella was an easy one, given that it started as a social enterprise in cooperation with the Gawad Kalinga Enchanted Farm and is now being supplied by the General Trias Dairy Raisers Multipurpose Cooperative and the Philippine Carabao Center.

“This was very on-brand with our Philippine Craft Spirits where we try as much as possible to limit our suppliers and work with farmers through cooperatives. The use of 100 percent carabao’s milk was also a factor in the decision making. We do not like to compromise quality with our Philippine Craft Spirits line and we always use the real thing in producing the products featured in the gelato,” shared Olivia Limpe-Aw, President and CEO of Destileria Limtuaco & Co. Inc.

Karabella’s gelato featuring Philippine Craft Spirits of Destileria are available at the Destileria Limtuaco Museum or through www.liquorexpress.ph. These will also be carried by major supermarkets in the 4th quarter of the year.
