When ONE Flyweight World Champion Adriano “Mikinho” Moraes runs it back with Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson in one of the most anticipated rematches in ONE Championship this year, no one expects it to be an easy bout for either man.
While most athletes prefer one over the other, the main event of ONE Fight Night 1: Moraes vs. Johnson II on August 27 will be too tough to call for former ONE Heavyweight World Champion Brandon “The Truth” Vera.
“They’re both so good, I don’t know what’s going to happen. I just want to make sure I’m watching that fight live. I don’t know because they can do it on the feet, or on the ground. I don’t know what’s going to happen,” Vera said.
“I bet it could start off as an amazing fight, and then all of a sudden, [it] just turns into a grappling match, try to see who’s better than who. That would be really cool as well.”
“The Truth” did tip his hat to the reigning World Champion, amazed at how Moraes can just flip the switch from an unassuming nice guy to one fierce competitor inside the Circle, which the Brazilian did in his first World Title defense against Johnson.
Many expected “Mighty Mouse” to come in and win the last missing World Championship belt in his cabinet, but those who did were in for a shock as “Mikinho” utilized his reach and landed big blows.
A huge uppercut and a big knee to the head ended the night for Johnson, and the legendary American experienced the first stoppage loss of his career.
For Vera, that switch could tow Moraes to another huge win over Johnson in this clash.
“Man, I love DJ, but Moraes is a monster of a different breed,” Vera said.
“DJ is one of the nicest people in the world. Moraes is even nicer than DJ. If we swing the other way, on the opposite side of the spectrum, that’s even how much more of a monster he is than DJ.
“The only way I can think about this in my head is like if I was reading a comic book. He’s such a nice guy but he’s also much crazier than the incredible Hulk.”
