Universal Robina Corp. (URC) of the Gokongwei Group, the biggest snack food maker, plans to reduce energy and water consumption by 30 percent compared with the 2020 baseline levels as part of its sustainability goals.
URC, according to its latest Sustainability Report, also plans to promote responsible sourcing of key ingredients like palm oil, potatoes and coffee beans.
It aims to achieve plastic neutrality through waste collection, recovery and diversion initiatives, as well as collaborative projects that include community engagement and linking with local recyclers.
URC president and chief executive Irwin Lee in a statement said URC has been able to polish its plans and refresh its targets amid challenges and crises affecting the economy. URC created its first sustainability report in 2018.
“Through efficient management of resources, and a consistent commitment to always give back, we aim to make lasting concrete changes on an institutional level, in a way that affects all operations, and demonstrates our resolve as a world-class manufacturer,” said Lee.
