Nadine Lustre and her out-of-the-box characters

At 28 years old, Nadine Lustre is already an accomplished actor. She has made an impact on local entertainment at an early age, which is why industry insiders and showbiz fans call her the “Multimedia Princess.”

After spending a couple of years as part of the JaDine love team together with her former flame, James Reid, Nadine made a conscious effort to change her branding – sultry yet artsy, present on all platforms yet still unpredictable, and most of all, accessible to her public. It’s true that Nadine’s showbiz efforts are her self expression as an artist and it’s also her way to give her fans entertainment.

Being a top-tier celebrity in the country, Nadine endeavours to create an interesting catalogue of the roles that she plays. In her own words, “out-of-the-box characters that are way different from the roles I played before.”

After her FAMAS, Gawad Urian, Young Critics Circle Film Desk, and Asian Academy Creative Awards (Singapore) wins in 2019, Nadine made a much-anticipated comeback via suspense thriller Greed, where she earned raves from critics for her impassioned performance.

“I’ve done so many rom-coms before, now I’m very vocal about switching it up, doing more roles and projects that are a little bit challenging, something that’s new or different from what I’m used to doing,” the award-winning actress told Manila Standard Entertainment in an interview.

Now, striking while the iron is hot, Nadine plays another interesting character in Mikhail Red’s psychological horror thriller, Deleter, produced by Viva Films.

Deleter tells the story of a desensitized online content moderator who deletes the video of her co-worker taking their own life. This woman, however, has to face her troubled past or a mysterious vengeful presence.

In the movie, which is yet to start production, Nadine plays Lyra, a woman in her mid-20s who works shifts at a shadowy online content moderation office–where employees are tasked with the process of filtering graphic uploads from reaching social media platforms. The responsibility of “censorship” proves bearable for Lyra, whom her co-workers observe as a cold person unphased by the disturbing imagery she sees on a daily basis. What they do not know is that Lyra hides a deep trauma of witnessing the murder of her mother at the hands of her father–a crime she purposely did not report to the police out of fear. Lyra’s attempt to erase and forget her past has forced her to don an apathetic face to the horrors of the world.

“I’m excited to work in Deleter because it’s my first time to do a horror film. And again, I’m portraying an out-of-the-box character which makes this project even more challenging,” shared Nadine.

Deleter is Mikhail’s first collaboration project with Viva Fims, his first time directing Nadine.

Nadine’s impassioned performance in ‘Greed’ earns her positive raves from critics

“We have an interesting cast. I partner with people who listen to the pitch and show interest in the project that I initiate. I really wanted to do a film about this subject. I’m thankful that they greenlit this project since it’s a different material,” Mikhail  stated.

“Moderators work in clandestine or shadowy operations and are often exposed to the filth of society, watching countless videos and images with disturbing and graphic content, which can lead to lasting trauma, as well as psychological and emotional distress all for a low wages,” the director went on adding that it’s one of the issues that he wanted to highlight in the movie.

Joining Nadine in Deleter are Louise delos Reyes and McCoy de Leon.
