Ernest John “EJ” Obiena has retained his crown in the Jump and Fly meet on Sunday morning at the Weiherstadion in Hechingen, Germany.
The 26-year-old Obiena made a 5.80-meter clearance for his second gold in a week, after coming out empty handed at the Wanda Diamond League in Stockholm, Sweden.
Obiena was ahead after he leapt 5.70 meters and made his highest clearance on his third and final attempt at that height.
There was a bid to set a new continental record at 5.94 meters, but Obiena was unable to clear it after two tries.
Chinese pole vaulter Huang Bokai settled for the silver with 5.50, while local bet Vincent Hobbie took the bronze at 5.10.
Obiena won the the crown last year in Mossingen with a Philippine record of 5.85 meters.
He will be in the United States this week for the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
