The Gilas girls fell in a 73-88 setback to Samoa on Wednesday night in the semifinals of the 2022 FIBA Women’s Under-16 Asian Championship’s Division B at the Prince Hamza Sports Hall in Amman, Jordan.
The Samoans avenged their 94-65 loss to Gilas on Sunday as they held off the Filipinas with their speeding shooting.
This put the Samoans into the winner-take-all finals with Syria, while the Filipinas will play Lebanon for third place.
Kira-May Filemu, Azaleeah Oloapu and Sienna Tutani imposed their size and power on the floors on the Gilas girls to carry Samoa to a 53-30 halftime lead.
Oluapo gave Samoa its biggest lead of the game, 59-32, with 7:37 left in the third quarter.
Naomi Panganiban shot 15 points, while Ava Fajardo got 14 points on 14 attempts.
Leading scorer Kristan Yumul added 13 points, but went just 5-of-20 from the field while Gabby Ramos was limited to eight points and eight rebounds, as well.
Lebanon is in a clash with Gilas after their 63-78 loss to Syria.
The Filipinas managed to cut Samoa’s lead to 13, 74-61, early in the final quarter.
But Filemu and Peata Manumaleuga erupted with baskets to help seal the final ticket for Samoa.
