Deputy Speaker and Negros Oriental 3rd District Rep. Arnolfo “Arnie” A. Teves Jr. has called on incoming President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to reconsider the operation of the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP) in the hopes of helping Filipinos on the problem of the country’s electricity supply.
In his privilege speech, Teves stressed that if the nuclear plant was launched as intended during the term of Marcos’ father, former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., the country would not be facing electricity problems, especially the current rising costs plaguing Filipinos.
“If we continued to develop and run the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant, electricity prices would be cut by at least one-fourth,” said Teves. “Politics became its bane, and if not for that, we could have affordable electricity rates today.”
“I appeal to the next administration to consider the nuclear plants operation, or if not, it should consider building a new one,” he added.
Teves also asked the incoming President to continue pushing for free medicines and health services for the poor and added that the next administration should also consider pushing low-orbit satellites to give the country affordable, if not free, internet access.
He called on politicians to support the presidency of Marcos Jr. and stressed that unity among them will greatly help the progress of the country.
“I am appealing to all politicians of all parties to support and honor the will of the people,” said Teves.
“This is the first ever that we have a Majority President and Vice President and when you say majority, more than half of the total voters chose them.”
“If we would not help and support them, then progress will be hampered anew,” he added.
Teves also appealed to Marcos Jr., saying the incoming president should be “at par or even better” than his father’s term.
“Lastly, I would like to see President BBM to be at par or even better than his father which I think he can do and is very likely,” said Teves. “I’m sure President Ferdinand Marcos, Sr. will be happy in heaven to see his son do better than him.”
“Congratulations, Mr. President. Looking forward to working with you in serving the Filipino people,” he added.
