Some Hollywood heavyweights gracing the event include Tom Cruise for Top Gun Maverick, a first for him in three decades, and actor Forest Whitaker, who will receive the festival’s Honorary Palme D’Or for lifetime achievement.

Director David Cronenberg also returns to horror films with Crimes of the Future, starring Viggo Mortensen, Kristen Stewart, and Lea Seydoux.

There will also be a strong showing of Asian and Ukrainian films, despite the absence of China and the ban on Russia.

The Cannes Film Festival runs until May 28 after two years of disruption due to the pandemic. It was canceled in 2020 and moved to July last year, following strict health protocols.
