Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte has ordered a full investigation of Friday afternoon’s riot between rival gangs at the Quezon City Jail that left one inmate dead and several others wounded.
Belmonte directed the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) to look into the incident, saying those found to be remiss in their duties should be held accountable.
The cause of the gang war has not been determined.
Belmonte underscored the need for the BJMP to review its security protocols to avoid such incidents from happening in the future.
QCPD Station 10 commander Col. Alex Alberto stated in a report to QCPD director Gen. Remus Medina, that the scuffle between members of the Batang City Jail, Commando and Bahala na Gang took place around 3 p.m. Friday.
The BJMP personnel took 10 wounded detainees to the East Avenue Medical Center.
