Movies and television series can influence audiences greatly with their creative takes on storytelling and sharing relevant life lessons. So, when GMA gave the green light for False Positive, a series that tackles gender equality, its director, Irene Emma Villamor, made sure that it lived up to its promise.
Villamor is known for directing projects that follow the romance and drama genres. Before False Positive, she dabbled with fantasy and comedy in small doses throughout her directing career. The series is her first time working with a slightly longer story rife with comedic value.
During an online media conference for False Positive, Villamor shared how she wanted the audience to learn the relevance of respect in every relationship.
“‘Yong gender equality parang madali siya. Parang abstract natin siya na nakikita na dapat pantay-pantay pero when it comes to intimacy and the relationship ng mag-asawa, ‘yong respeto sa isa’t isa doon naman ‘yon magsisimula,” she said.
Villamor added that it’s a lesson that transcends gender because it focuses on love and the complexities of relationships.
Glaize De Castro and Xian Lim headline False Positive, marking the latter’s first full-length series with the network since he first joined the previous year.
Although Xian feels excited and grateful to the network’s creative team for considering him in such an unconventional role, he admits to having challenges during the production period.
“The challenges, siguro if I can pick one, is giving a genuine portrayal of being pregnant. ‘Yong mga nararamdaman or ‘yong mga mannerisms or ‘yong mga pinagdaraanan ng isang tao pag nabubuntis,” he shared.
Xian added that he had a lot of questions about pregnancy. Luckily, there were helpful people on set, such as mothers, who gave him insights to help him develop a more accurate portrayal of his role. They even instructed him on how to show pain and discomfort to be more believable.
False Positive is also Xian’s first time working alongside Glaiza, also known as Asia’s Acting Gem. Xian describes her as “super nice” but also intimidating at first.
On the other hand, Glaiza welcomed her character with open arms and an open mind. She shared that she learned a lot from her role in the series but thoroughly enjoyed it because of how professional her colleagues were in tackling a project that was new to them.
“Nilabas ng project na ‘to ‘yong inner kulit namin. Which I think nag-work naman kasi lahat nga open, lahat mapagbigay, lahat masaya, at masasabi ko lang talaga na ang sarap tumawa,” the actress said.
Glaiza is known for her powerful roles in many drama series, making False Positive a break from her usual. She’s also married to American TV personality David Rainey. Presently, the couple wants to enjoy as much of their time together because Glaiza said that she needs to be physically, mentally, and spiritually prepared before she takes the next step in their lives and assumes the role of a mother.
False Positive will premiere on May 2 on GMA 7. Joining Glaiza and Xian are other notable celebrities like Nova Villa, Tonton Gutierrez, Rochelle Pangilinan, Dominic Roco, Luis Hontiveros, Yvette Sanchez, and more.
