Vice President Leni Robredo said the strength of her presidential campaign is derived from the hard work of her supporters united in fighting for their future, and that it is the light of a home – “ilaw ng tahanan” and a reference to mothers – who would lead the people to this bright future.
Robredo, the only female presidential candidate, made the comment in her closing remarks in the second installment of the Pilipinas Debates 2022: The Turning Point.
Robredo said the strength of the cause comes from those who still attend rallies after being forbidden, those who spend their own funds for campaign materials, those who go from house to house, convincing others to join them.
Most of all, she said the campaign’s strength comes from hope for a brighter tomorrow.
In the Visayas, thegroup Ikaw Muna Pilipinas in the Visayas on Monday withdrew its support from presidential bet Manila Mayor Isko Moreno to back the presidential bid of Robredo.
The group said that Moreno is not doing well in the poll surveys, and that Robredo has the best chance of preventing ex-senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to win.
More than 12,000 doctors on Monday endorsed Robredo to be the country’s next president. The group called “Doctors for Leni” said Robredo “really showed up” at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
It also expressed its support for Robredo’s running-mate, Senator Francis Pangilinan.
“We are more than 12,000 Filipino doctors from different parts of the country. We are the witnesses of the adverse effects of wrong governance now that the pandemic has brought about severe poverty and death among our health workers and other fellow Filipinos,” its statement of support read. In Malaysia, a group of overseas Filipino workers is backing the Leni-Kiko tandem.
With only six days to go before overseas absentee voting starts on April 10, the group said it will go all out for the campaign of Robredo and Pangilinan.
In particular, Pangilinan received the full support of members of the Domestic Workers Association of Malaysia (DWAM), describing him as a principled servant of the poor with a clean track record.
During a virtual town hall hosted by the Solid Leni-Kiko Global, Liezl Rodrigo of the DWAM listed the reasons why the group is throwing its 100-percent support for Pangilinan’s candidacy — his long experience in politics and his support for the agriculture sector. With Rio N. Araja
