The new series Bola Bola stars three talented actors as leading men who star alongside Francine Diaz, who plays Thea, a 220-pound high school student whose greatest love is food. These include BGYO’s Akira Morishita, The Squad Plus’ KD Estrada, and Ashton Salvador.
Aside from tackling self-love, Bola Bola also serves as KD’s first project as a leading man and Akira’s return to acting.
KD plays the role of Julian, Thea’s best friend who has always been her number one support system and who secretly still has the biggest crush on her.
Before Bola Bola, KD appeared as a supporting actor in the romantic comedy television series Unloving U. He said, during an online media conference for Bola Bola, that the role between the two is quite similar, but the latter has more depth storywise.
Since it’s his first time as a leading man, many expected he turned to his girlfriend, Alexa Ilacad, for tips as she’s been in the industry since she was young and is known as a versatile and formidable actress.
Yet that wasn’t the case.
“Nothing against Alexa, but she didn’t give me any tips. But she told me to give it my 100 percent since it’s my first acting na lead ako,” he said.
He added that aside from giving it his all, he also strived to impress Alexa, who established herself as an actress. Luckily for KD, his significant other noticed something from the series’ trailer that describes his skills as an actor.
“She did say, based on the trailer, she saw that my eyes are very expressive. At least I got a good comment from her,” KD said.
Also joining KD as a leading man in the new series is Akira. Akira plays the role of Lucas, Thea’s lifelong crush and puppy love. The series also marks Akira’s return to acting as he spends most of his time performing with his group.
Yet for Akira acting on-screen and in performances are two different skills he needs to master, even though he’s already appeared in several indie projects before. But in his performance for Bola Bola, he shares that not much of his skills have changed, but he did mature as an actor.
“Nabigay ko naman ‘yong best ko. Siguro mas nag-mature ‘yong way of thinking ko, sa pag-intindi ko sa character sa series. Very happy din ako na tinutulungan ako nila KD, Francine kapag may eksena kasi binibigyan nila ako ng tips,” the multi-talented artist said.
The first episode for Bola Bola aired on March 26, and viewers are already raving about the cast’s performances. Akira shared that it was fun working with Francine because of her creativity and acting prowess.
He said some scenes in the series where Francine adlibbed while asking him to join along. Eventually, he learned a thing two from the tips and experience he got acting beside her.
