Ace lifts Angeles, Visaya to joint lead

Christian Angeles grabbed the Day 1 spotlight in the Southwoods Invitational Wednesday, scoring a hole-in-one on No. 3 of the Masters course and powering his team-up with Oscar Visaya to a share of Division 2 lead with 96 points in the member-guest tournament in Carmona, Cavite.

Angeles aced the 176-yard hole using a PXG 6-iron and Taylor Made TP5x #5 ball and won a 4-night Southeast Asia cruise for two, inclusive of two economy class tickets (Manila-Singapore-Manila), courtesy of Royal Caribbean/Baron Travel.

He also claimed P100,000 from Sojitz Fuso Phils. Corp. for the feat.

A brand new 2022 Mirage G4 GLS CVT A/T Sedan remains up for grabs for aces on Nos. 16 and 5 of the Legends and Masters courses, respectively, along with a Club Car Tempo 2-seater electric on No. 13 of Masters from The Turf Company; a Gran Sportivo Golf Cart on No. 12 of Legends, and Mercedes-Benz A-Class on No. 13 of Masters from Auto Nation Group, Inc.

Angeles and member Visaya combined for 96 Net Stableford Points under the best-ball format at the Masters to tie Ian Tambunting and Raymond Lacdao in the lead with Frederick Yu and Nieto Jesus Punzalan and Jayson Yu and Rex Goquingco matching 92 points in the four-day event backed by Platinum sponsors Mitsubishi Motors Phil. Corp./Alpine Motors Corp., Royal Caribbean/Baron Travel, Agrexplore Corp., Abomar Equipment Sales Corp., Sojitz Fuso Phil. Corp., Klio International Marketing Corp. and HBW Enterprises.

Brixton Aw and Raymond Co set the pace in Division I at Legends with 82 points in Aggregate format with Edsel Opulencia and Abraham Avena pooling a 79 and Shean Bedi and Terry Macdonald putting up a 77, while Neil Anthony Ong and John Philip Yeung took charge in Division, also at the Legends, with 77 with Romeo Chong and Elvis Balayan posting a 74 and Bob Sobrepeña and Monet Garcia carding a 73.

Angeles and Visaya also shared the lead in the chase for the overall net crown with the rest of the 96 scorers while Junjun Plana and Gab Macalaguim paced the overall gross race with 72, one ahead of Ilagan and Sangil, and Opulencia and Avena, who turned in 71 apiece.

Juan Miguel Cantero and Paolo Nicomedes, meanwhile, assembled a 96 to show the way in the Sponsors/Guest division of the event supported by The Manor & The Forest Lodge at Camp John Hay and Leads Agricultural Products Corp. head the Gold backers list and Le Chef, Inc., Metro Rail Transit Dev’t. Corp., PGA Clubshares and PNOEZ as Silver sponsors.
