Must-see tourism destinations in the Philippines

Two years ago, when the COVID-19 pandemic struck, the tourism industry was forced to close down and stop its operations to follow health and safety protocols imposed by the government.

Now that the conditions are slowly improving (and hopefully continue), the tourism industry is re-opening its doors to welcome eager tourists to several key destinations in the Philippines, where they can create new memories with friends, family, and loved ones, as they experience new adventures together.

Here are some tourist spots that should always be on a tourist’s bucket list:

Boracay

After a six-month closure due to overcrowding, the white sandy beaches of Boracay Island in Aklan are now accepting visitors to experience the luxurious and relaxing activities on the island. From comfortable hotels that cater to guests’ whims to delicious food that keep gourmets coming back for more, there’s always something to do or see in Boracay. Adrenaline seekers can also dive into a plethora of activities like jet skiing, scuba diving, paddle boarding, and more. The possibilities are just endless.

Palawan

Famous for its underground rivers and picturesque sceneries, the island of Palawan remains a breathtaking tourist destination in the country. Tourists can go island-hopping or swimming in Palawan’s refreshing waters. They can also take a stroll in some of the island’s well-known parks or visit nature reserves. To add to the island’s tourism industry, Puerto Princesa Park boasts of blooming balayong trees or the Palawan version of the well-loved cherry blossoms in South Korea. It’s a trip worth making.

Baguio

The Summer Capital of the Philippines is another must-visit tourist destination. Nestled among the mountains of the north, Baguio boasts of a cool climate year-round to go with its rich indigenous culture from nearby communities. It’s easy for tourists to enjoy a laidback vacation in Baguio. They can visit Mt. Pulag National Park or Burnham Park to engage in leisure activities like riding horses and more. Or they can revisit local history by dropping by the Diplomat Hotel or the Philippine Military Academy.

Cebu

Even though the Queen City of the South was devastated by Typhoon Odette, it still lives up to its name as a must-see tourism destination. Because of its location, tourists can enjoy visiting a variety of beaches and resorts throughout the province. There are also some waterfalls and mountains they can hike for an extra dose of adventure. But aside from the natural wonders of Cebu, the province also boasts of a rich history found in its churches, museums, and other historical sites.

Manila

As the capital of the Philippines, the city of Manila has a lot to be proud of. It has a myriad of attractions that cater to each tourist’s preference. History lovers can visit some popular sites such as Fort Santiago, the National Museum, Rizal Park, and more. Even the public spaces and shopping malls have a lot to offer for tourists who are willing to explore the vast streets of the city.

With the government and the public ready to move forward after more than two years of living in fear, the tourism industry provides a safe space for guests to unwind and experience the true beauty of the country. However, it’s still relevant to practice health and safety protocols to avoid misfortunes and fully enjoy vacations with the people who matter the most.
