The Baguio City local government will no longer limit the number of visitors entering the city.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong said the limit was lifted “to determine its threshold on tourist arrivals when the city was placed under Alert Level 2 in February.”
“This is already the concept of our recovery. We will again engage with the private and business sectors for us to be able to create that enabling environment. We need to help them recover as we transition to the ‘new normal,” he said, in the statement. Baguio City is under Alert Level 1 from March 1 to 15.
Magalong said the local government has set parameters to establish the threshold of visitors. These include managing traffic and the number of people in markets and malls. He said air quality, and crowd counting are also parameters being observed.
Magalong added that Baguio City has a “Smart City System” that can monitor these parameters in real time. The official advised reminded residents and tourists and/or visitors to continue observing minimum public health standards.
He also said he already talked with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) regarding bus companies and other public transport.
