Bureau of Immigration (BI) agents arrested an American fugitive wanted in his homeland with 34 cases of child pornography.
BI Intelligence Division Chief Fortunato Manahan, Jr. identified fugitive as Gregory Evans Nelson, 68, who was arrested at Brgy. Balulang, Cagayan de Oro City.
According to Manahan, a manhunt was conducted by the BI’s Regional Intelligence Operations Unit (RIOU) 10 after receiving reports from US authorities that said alien is the subject of thirty-four arrest warrants in the United States for charges related to possession and distribution of child pornography.
Records also show that Nelson is no longer holding a valid passport after it was revoked by the US government.
BI Commissioner Jaime Morente lauded the efforts of the BI-RIOU 10 in arresting the fugitive.
“This is one of our priority cases, since there is information that he is aware of the warrants against him, and he may attempt to hide to evade his arrest,” said Morente.
“The presence of such criminals poses a risk to our country’s women and children, hence he should immediately be deported and banned from returning,” he added.
Nelson is temporarily detained at the BI’s detention facility in Davao City awaiting transportation to BI’s Warden Facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig.
