Navotas has gained a new set of scholars following the signing of a memorandum of agreement for the fourth batch of NavotaAs Athletic Scholarship Program.
Mayor Toby Tiangco signed the MOA with parents and guardians of 157 student-athletes who excelled in sports competitions.
“Just a few days ago, we witnessed how Filipino athletes brought pride and joy to our country in the 30th South East Asian Games. We hope that in the years to come, we will see our own athletes represent Navotas and the Philippines in international sports events,” Tiangco said.
Under the MOA, athletic scholars are set to receive P16,500 for transportation and food allowance and P1,500 for uniform and equipment per academic year.
Their scholarship may be renewed annually provided they attend the trainings scheduled by the city government and win at least third place or its equivalent in any regional or national sports competitions.
The athletic scholarship, established in 2016, is open to students who championed in table tennis, taekwondo, swimming, athletics, badminton, arnis, and chess at the Navotas schools division meet.
Meanwhile, Navotas also offers scholarships to students who excel in academics and arts, and children or kin of fisherfolks. It also provides educational assistance to differently-abled persons and children of solo parents.
