Transparency, accountability and prudent utilization of fees has landed Malabon City as the top local government unit in Metro Manila in revenue collection efficiency.
Malabon was recognized anew as Top 1 in the Collection Target for Fees and Charges, besting 16 other LGUs in the National Capital Region. It received the same award last year.
The city collected more than P240 million in fees and charges, exceeding its target of P144 million and posting a collection efficiency rate of 166.15 percent.
Mayor Lenlen Oreta thanked the Malabonian taxpayers for supporting the city’s continuing commitment for an honest government.
“I assure you that every centavo goes to the people. Ito ay pera ng mamamayan kaya naman maingat at tapat itong ginagasta para tiyaking nabibigyang kalinga ang bawat Pamilyang Malabonian,” Oreta added.
Awarded annually, the Department of Finance-Bureau of Local Government Finance recognizes LGUs who excelled in their revenue collection efforts towards better local governance and efficient public service.
Malabon City Treasurer Amalia Santos and other city officials received the citation during the awarding ceremonies held at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City on Dec. 12.
Meanwhile, the city government will donate P4 million to victims of Typoon “Tisoy,” Oreta announced.
“Malabonians sympathize with our countrymen affected by the storm. We want to help them get back on their feet and we will extend whatever assistance we can give,” Oreta said.
Upon the recommendation of the Malabon Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council and adopted by the Sangguniang Panlungsod led by Councilor Enzo Oreta, Malabon will donate P1 million each to the provinces of Albay, Sorsogon, Oriental Mindoro, and Northern Samar.
The LGUs of these provinces have already declared states of calamity.
“Malabon is always ready to assist our countrymen in whatever challenge because we want to ensure a safe and progressive Philippines,” Mayor Oreta said.
Last November, Malabon City also donated P1 million each to the province of Davao Del Sur and the municipalities of Makilala and Tulunan in South Cotabato after they suffered from the series of earthquakes that hit Mindanao.
