Here at home, it is usually the malls that usher in the holiday season—leading the community in decking the halls, decorating the trees, and turning the lights on. For a nation that takes Christmas seriously, these establishments pull out all the stops just to delight and excite.
SM Megamall, for instance, launched its Christmas in London decoration with a spectacular circus show.
Performing amid a thousand fairy lights and red and gold holiday trimmings were a father-and-son duo freestyle acrobat, the Sky Fairy’s Aerial Chandelier act, and giant gift tournik gymnast act.
Denmark’s Got Talent Golden Buzzer Jonathan Bendtsen and professional teeterboard acrobat, juggler, and dance acrobat Daniel Bendtsen also wowed guests with their breathtaking teeterboard act.
The performances aptly opened a display that features a 40-foot Christmas tree adorned with string of gems, crystals, snowflakes, and metal ornaments; the interactive Mega Crystal Room; and other life-size installations such as a red telephone booth.
Little flappers and young “Gatsbys” graced the holiday launch at S Maison.
During the event, inspired by the Jazz Age of the 1920s, guests were treated to performances by Julie Borromeo Performing Arts Foundation and the Brass Pas Pas Pas Pas Orchestra, as well as a special appearance of Santa Claus who came all the way from the North Pole.
The highlight of the event was the lighting of S Maison’s Christmas tree, embellished with big and small gold and silver snowflakes, huge crystal balls, three smaller Christmas tree lamps made of crystal beads, and more.
Over at SM Aura Premier, a resplendent phoenix rises and shines amid the splendid holiday display and festivities.
Jugglers and acrobats delighted the mall guests during the launch of the holiday display, including the interactive two-part Flight of Lights installation.
Amid the festivities, SM Foundation has launched Bears of Joy 2019: Share a Bear this Christmas project. For P200, customers can purchase a pair of toy bears, one for themselves and another they can donate to a child in need.
The Share a Bear project is ongoing until Dec. 25 at selected SM Supermalls Toy Fair booths and Toy Kingdom stores nationwide.
