Two of the country’s most sought-after rock bands—Slapshock and 6Cyclemind—will sizzle in Sarangani Province as it celebrates the 17th MunaTo Festival and 26th founding day from Nov. 27 to 30.
Metalcore quintet Slapshock will rock the night the away on Nov. 30 after the Tunog Katutubo, Tunog Mindanao Battle of the Bands which will pit the south’s top musical talents.
Serving as front acts are the seven-person youth band Andromeda, the Gen. Santos City-based reggae group Kuerdas, and Davao’s alternative pop-rock band Daybreak.
Meanwhile, 6Cyclemind, known for its well-loved fusion of alternative and pop music will bring down the curtains down on Dec. 1 as they officially welcome the Advent Season. The quintet is a favorite in the province’s special events which include Sarangani Bay Festival, the country’s biggest party held every May.
Concerts will be held at the sprawling Provincial Capitol Complex grounds in Alabel town.
Derived from the Blaan tribal phrase Muna Toh or first people, the Festival is one of the richest cultural events in the Soccsksargen Region.
According to Sarangani Governor Steve Chiongbian Solon, this year’s theme is “Isang Diwa” which will highlight the unity in diversity between and among the province’s tri-people—the lumad indigenous peoples composed of Blaan, Tboli and Tagakaolo tribes, the Moro communities, and the Christian settlers.
He said that MunaTo will showcase nature, culture, and adventure which are the province’s tourist top drawers.
Fringe events in the four-day fest include the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League, the Pearl of Sarangani pageant which will select the province’s ambassadresses of goodwill and tourism, Youth Day, Week of Peace, Indigenous Peoples Day, Jesus Reigns, and various sporting and fitness events.
