Former ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang is in the best shape of his life heading to his last assignment in an otherwise disappointing 2019.
This Friday, 8 November, the Filipino legend goes toe-to-toe with Amarsanaa “Spear” Tsogookhuu of Mongolia in the co-main event of ONE: MASTERS OF FATE at the Mall Of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines.
It has been a rocky year for Folayang. He dropped the World Title to Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki at ONE: A NEW ERA last March before losing to Eddie “The Underground King” Alvarez at ONE: DAWN OF HEROES in the ONE Lightweight World Grand Prix semifinals last August.
That said, the 35-year-old now gets another chance to put the losses behind him.
“This is such an important bout for me, not only because I want to end this year with a win, but because I want to show that I keep on improving with every day I work in the gym,” Folayang said.
“Now we’re a day away from the big night, my conditioning has been excellent, and I am really excited to compete and maximize all the opportunities given to me.”
Learning from his earlier mishaps, the Baguio City native made some adjustments and added more offense in his arsenal.
Known as a devastating striker, “The Landslide” plans to mix his points of attack when he squares off against the 29-year-old Mongolian.
“Tsogookhuu is a very good fighter. He takes advantage of his opponent’s mishaps, so the game plan is to commit as little mistakes and get that win whether on the feet or on the ground,” Folayang said.
“There are a lot of factors we should consider in this match, and it certainly pays to be prepared.”
“Right now, I’m focused on my wrestling and the ground game. I know I have skills in both of those and I want to mix up my striking with my ground game. I believe that’s a key for me to get that win.”
The Philippines have witnessed Folayang at his best, and at his very worst. This time, the soft-spoken Filipino hero promises to be on a whole different level.
“I encourage everyone to watch this Friday because I want them to see how much I’ve improved and how much I truly want to get my World Title back,” Folayang said.
“One thing is for sure, it’s going to be a different Eduard Folayang this Friday. I am going to show my ‘Super Saiyan’ mode.”
