Players competing in the 3×3 Elite League Manila 2019 will be earning FIBA points in the three-day competition set to open on Friday at the Dumlao Sports Center in Mandaluyong City.
Tournament commissioner Jerry Codinera said the competition is a FIBA-sanctioned event which will give the players individual points in their FIBA 3×3 profile.
Codinera added the tournament will also give the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) federation ranking points in its quest to make it to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The Philippines is currently 25th in the world, and is looking to increase its rankings for a chance to make it to the first-ever 3×3 competition in the Olympics.
“The tournament supports the SBP and the whole Philippine 3×3 community in its bid to make it to the Olympics. I truly believe that 3×3 basketball is for the Filipinos and we have a chance to excel in this competition,” said Codinera.
Registration is still open for the 3×3 Elite League Manila which will have its eliminations on Friday and Saturday at the Dumlao Sports Center, with the playoffs and championships set on Sunday at the Market! Market! Mall in Taguig City.
The champion team will receive $3,000 and will represent the Philippines in the SINA 3×3 Elite League 2019 in Beijing this December where they will be competing against some of the best 3×3 teams in the world.
