Through its corporate social responsibility program called Servathon, the global initiative aims to reduce hunger and malnutrition in communities in need.

“Together with our team, we really look forward to contributing to our community by providing hot, nutritious meals to children to make their learning at school even more meaningful and fruitful, making their quality of life better,” said Phil Carter, country president of Sodexo Philippines, On-site Services (OSS).

This year, Sodexo Philippines organized two major activities done at various locations in Central and Southern Luzon.

About 1,500 children have benefitted from the 70 employee volunteers who spent a total of 30 volunteer hours in a two-month period, through local partners Brigada Eskwela and Virlanie Foundation.

Brigada Eskwela is a nationwide initiative of the Department of Education that mobilizes civic groups, local businesses, non-government organizations, teachers, students, and volunteer individuals to work on repairs, maintenance, and clean-up of public elementary and secondary schools.

A long-time partner of Sodexo Philippines, Virlanie Foundation is a private, non-profit and non-sectarian organization reaching out to marginalized children and communities in the Philippines. Virlanie Foundation takes care of 24 babies at their Babies and Toddlers Home.

This effort is done through community service, skilled volunteerism, fundraising, and other activities that expand and connect its mission beyond food aid, in support of the Stop Hunger Foundation, a non-profit organization launched by Sodexo in 1999. Stop Hunger and Sodexo work together to bring Servathon and reach to as many people in need as possible, sharing the vision of a hunger-free world.

“Through this activity, we (employees) feel more empowered because we were given the chance to become a part of something that could help the community. Through our small contributions like repainting the old classrooms and distributing cupcakes, we were able to help students have a more conducive learning environment,” said Alyssa Garcia, one of the employee volunteers from Sodexo Benefits and Rewards Services.
