Altas take on Tams, eye win no. 2; CEU faces EasyTrip tossers

Perpetual Help tries to come out strong from a week-long break as it shoots for a second straight win against Far Eastern U even as EasyTrip makes its debut against Centro Escolar U in the Spikers’ Turf Open Conference at the Paco Arena in Manila today (Tuesday).

The Altas toppled the Coast Guard side in four last Aug. 20 to launch their title campaign in Pool C of the four-division tournament of the season-ending conference of the league organized by Sports Vision with Kennry Malinis, Louie Ramirez and Joebert Almodiel expected to lead the Las Piñas-based squad’s charge again.

Gametime is at 3 p.m. after CEU tests EasyTrip’s mettle at 1 p.m. with the Scorpions out to bounce back from a shutout loss to the Eco Oil last week.

Mapua and UST, meanwhile, seek to rebound from their opening game setbacks as they face off at 5 p.m.

Meanwhile, Emilio Aguinaldo College and PLDT posted a pair of straight-set wins over their respective rivals while Arellano rallied from a set down to frustrate UST in five in last Sunday’s matches.

The EAC Generals drew 14 points from Joshua Mina as they blasted the NCBA Wildcats, 25-15, 25-18, 25-17, in Pool A, while Mark Gil Alfafara unloaded 11 points to power PLDT to a 25-15, 25-21, 25-21 victory over San Sebastian in Pool C.

The Arellano Chiefs, on the other hand, bucked the Tigers’ power game with gutsy plays in the decider as they hacked out a 20-25, 28-26, 23-25, 25-22, 16-14 decision in another Pool D match.

UST fired 57 attack points, 13 more than Arellano’s but the Chiefs cashed in on their Tigers’ miscues to steal the win. Arellano scored 50 points off UST’s errors with the Chiefs’ yielding 36 points off miscues.

Christian dela Paz scored 19 hits, while Demy Lapuz, Joshua Segovia and Jesrael Liberato combined for 35 markers as they bucked the combined 58-point production of Lorenz Senoron, Allan Redido, Andrei Medina and Charlee Magpayo.
