Pastor ‘Boy’ Saycon, widely known as a political operator, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 8, due to lung cancer.
Saycon, one of the original supporters and campaign tacticians of former President Fidel V. Ramos, died barely two months after he turned 69 last July 10.
Saycon lived near the Ramos residence at Ayala Alabang in Muntinlupa.
After a successful campaign that installed Ramos to the presidency in 1992, Saycon later joined the camp of Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, got into the inner circle of Chavit Singson when the latter exposed former President Joseph Estrada’s alleged links to jueteng operators. The exposé eventually resulted to Estrada’s downfall in 2001.
Arroyo, Estrada’s vice president, was catapulted to the presidency.
Saycon later severed his ties with Arroyo after a quarrel with GMA’s husband, Mike Arroyo.
Mrs. Arroyo once called Saycon an “anay” (termite) of her envisioned “strong republic,” especially after the latter exposed anomalies in the construction of the Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard in Pasay City.
