Taguig City Mayor Lino Edgardo Cayetano on Wednesday praised the men and women of the city’s Nutrition Office after it was awarded a plaque of appreciation by the National Nutrition Council.
The NNC-National Capital Region gave the award to the city government during the 2019 Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony held at the Heritage Hotel in Pasay City last July 26.
The award is in recognition of the city’s support and excellent commitment in boosting proper nutrition and in its superb implementation of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition.
Because of its outstanding programs in health, Taguig City was also named the Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition in 2016, the 1st CROWN Maintenance Awardee in 2017, and the 2nd CROWN Maintenance Awardee in 2018.
Mayor Cayetano said with the conferment of these awards, the city now aims for the Nutrition Honor Award which is the highest award given by the NNC to the recipients of the CROWN Award.
Cayetano also congratulated City Nutrition Office’s Barangay Nutrition Scholar Gina G. Reyes, who was also recognized as the Outstanding BNS in Taguig City.
Under the administration of former Mayor Laarni Cayetano, Taguig City’s malnutrition prevalence rate dropped from 3.82 percent in 2011 to 0.22 percent in 2018.
The city government’s program encourages families to set up their own urban community vegetable gardens by providing seedlings, planting materials and conducting farming classes.
