Balinas Cup ‘19 goes to Lucban

The region’s top executive chess players will see action in the ninth leg of the National Executive Chess Championship, also known as the 2019 Grandmaster Rosendo Balinas Sr. Chess Cup which will be held July 27 (Saturday) at the Zurea Hotel, La Purisima Concepcion St. in Lucban, Quezon.

Tournament director Joselito Cada said the one-day rapid event is open to all qualified members of Philippine Executive Chess Association, supported by Engr. Antonio “Tony” Carreon Balinas, older brother of the late GM Balinas.

Philippine Executive Chess Association president Dr. Jenny Mayor said the tournament is a 7-round Swiss System affair, with 20 minutes playing time and an increment of five seconds.

The winner in the Open division (2000 and above NCFP rating) will take home P7,000 and a trophy, while the second placer will take home P5,000 and a medal. The third placed wins P3,000 and a medal; the fourth placer gets P2,000 plus medal and the fifth placer wins P1,500 and a medal.

Special prizes also await the Top 2200 and below, Top 2100 and below and Top Senior, who will each receive P1,000 each and medals.

In the challenger’s division (1999 and below), the champion will take home P6,000 and a trophy; the second placer will get P3,000 and a medal; the third placer will pocket P2,000 and medal; the fourth placer will bring home P1,500 and a medal, while the fifth placer will receive P1,000 plus a medal.

The Top 1800 and below, Top Senior and Top Unrated will receive P1,000 each and medals.

Registration for the NCFP-sanctioned event is pegged at P1,000; while on-site registration is at P1,200.  The annual membership fee is P1,000.
