Team Ecostrong scored a 5.5-4.5 victory over Perry’s Group to clinch its first Orchard Intra Club Golf League title after a string of runner-up finishes in the last five years.
Ecostrong opened with a 3-2 lead with triumphs in Pinehurst Foursomes, Four Ball B and Aggregate formats at the Player course of the Orchard Golf and Country Club.
At the Palmer course, it won in the High Low and Aggregate formats, then halved point in Four Ball B for a 5.5 total, to capture the trophy.
The triumph also completed a big comeback for Ecostrong, from being outside the top 10 to serious title contender at the end of the elimination round.
“This come-from-behind championship was built on hard work and trust. We were counted out already but we proved doubters wrong,” manager Gino Olivares said.
Perry’s Group was humble in defeat, saying: “We tried our best but we ran out of holes. The Ecostrong guys played well, they deserved to win,” said skipper Louie Garcia.
M.A.E.L.S. triumphed in the battle for third place with a 4-1 decision over SAGO Rover in the 10th edition of the Intra Club, where 13 “barkadahan” teams competed.
“This year, we had 344 Orchard members. Next year, it will increase as more have signified their intention to participate,” said Orchard golf director Francis Montallana.
