The Philippines faltered anew against another hometown American team, the USA Under-19 Women’s National Team, 7-0, in the USA Softball International Cup on Tuesday at the South Commons Softball Complex in Columbus, Georgia, USA.
The Cebuana Lhuillier-backed Blu Girls failed to get their offense going against American pitcher Megan Faraimo who claimed a shutout win. She surrendered zero runs on two hits over five innings and striking out nine.
“We came here for a specific purpose to prepare our team for the 2020 Olympics where qualified earlier, we will treat won games as bonuses in this tournament. The real benefit should show in the future as the girls upgrade their skills applying what they pick from their experiences here, together with the coaching staff, said Jean Henri Lhuillier, Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (ASAPHIL) president and Cebuana Lhuillier president and CEO.
It was the third setback by the Philippines in as many outings in this 10-team softball event.
The Blu Girls, ranked no. 13 in the world, and whose campaign here is supported by ASAPHIL and Cebuana Lhuillier, will next face Mexico.
