Jomary “The Zamboanginian Fighter” Torres has been training restlessly for her second appearance inside the ONE circle this year, looking to make a statement after struggling in her last three outings.
All her hard work, adjustments and improvements will finally be showcased on 12 July when she takes on hometown hero Jihin “Shadow Cat” Radzuan in a three-round atomweight affair at ONE: MASTERS OF DESTINY at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur.
Torres knows the urgency of ending her skid now.
“Once I was informed that I’ll be facing her, I watched her previous matches intently. I know she’s excellent in wushu and she’s very versatile, but I’m ready to surprise her when we face each other,” said Torres.
“As I’ve said, I’ve been locked in and focused for this, especially after my last fight. I worked on everything cause I know how good my opponent is,” she added. “But we have a good game plan and we know how to beat her.”
Torres admitted that her Malaysian foe is more than just an incredible wushu practitioner, but the 23-year-old Zamboanga Del Norte native has already found an area that she could exploit in their cage meeting.
And it’s on the feet.
“I know she’s a good striker and she’s strong physically. But I am confident with my striking. I think I have a good chance if we trade blows,” said Torres.
“But if this hits the ground, I know that I am ready as well.”
Hellbent on getting back to the winning track, Torres does not have any plans of leaving the outcome of her showdown with Radzuan in the hands of the judges.
“I want to win by knockout. That’s my number one goal in my fight in Malaysia,” shared Torres.
“I am confident in my game and I feel like I am the stronger person in this match. I’ll do everything to maximize that.”
